i have just talked with the wtbts service department at 718-560-5000.. you can contribute for hurricane katrina relief efforts through your local kingdom hall and put your donation in the contribution box marked for the world wide work.
you may also send donations directly to the branch office... to the brooklyn address.
donations should be marked for the world wide work and not specificically reserved for relief efforts.
I won't be making any donations, although my husband more than will make up for me not giving. He's very generous $$$ wise, plus he donates a lot of his time and skills on a regular basis.
I don't agree with their stance of only helping their own, and not even all of their own at that.
The ones well connected, or the ones that are considered 'pillars' in the congregation are the ones that benefit the most.
All help given has to be approved by the 'service committee', so those that aren't in good standing will probably get what's left after everybody else in 'good standing' has been helped.
My fact is part of those relief committees and he tells me that 'inactive' ones, the trouble makers labeled 'spiritually weak' ones, are left for last.
Nope, I don't be donating a penny to the WBTS.

ok, all you "bleedin' hearts" get ready to flame me..... i have been watching the developments in the devastated areas like everyone else, and something has begun to strike me.
there seems to be tens of thousands of people who are just sitting around waiting for help to miraculously drop out of the sky, and the longer they sit idle, the madder they get that the government hasn't swooped in and immediately solved all their problems.
i have a few questions about this mindset:.
All of these people. Every single one of them. Starting from the upper government echelon on down to the poorest citizen. NONE OF THEM HAD A PLAN!!!
They should've!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i googled some different religion home pages this morning to see how some religions/churches were responding to the disaster on the gulf coast.. all the ones that i checked, catholic, baptist, lutheran, presbyterian all made mention of the disaster and had already started some relief efforts.
the cathoic church has its own relief website, catholicrelief.org where various relief efforts around the world are listed.
(one interesting one is that the catholic church is teaming with the mormons to bring food to niger) .
The JWs do a superb job at helping out... but only their own.
It's their modus operandi, and it's not going to change anytime soon. Their way of rescuing their own is absolutely superb! Even more so if the person happens to be very active and considered a 'pillar' in the congregation or if you're 'well connected' with the heavy ones.
Well, looking at it positively, at least they'll offer some sort of help if only to a chosen few. If every group or religious organization would offer the same sort of help with the same organization as the JWs, the problem wouldn't be as much for the government.

for those not up-to-date on my situation ... .
i was disfellowshipped and i posted about it here.. i wrote an appeal letter, and wrote about it here.
so, i just got home from a weeks vacation, i was home for 3 hours.
WOW!!!
Those hardly ever work. I mean, once they make up their mind to kick somebody out, that's it.
Congratulations, I guess. If that's what you really wanted.

yesterday i quit smoking.
its something i have been thinking of trying for a while, and i finally got round to it.
it was a tough day and a sleepless night, i probably had a couple of hours, and i am under no illusions about today being any easier.
I wish you much success!

i am so shocked by the devastation in the south from katrina.
watch the news channel for a few minutes and you can imagine the grief, heartbrake and misery that thousands of people are experiencing as we read this board.
please, if you have any money at all to donate, do it now while it is fresh in your mind.
I'm donating all the $$$ I can to the Red Cross and to the Salvation Army.
Those 2 organizations kicked butt big time when we needed them last year during our tragedy with Charlie. They were outstanding with everyone, not just their own.
DY
i can't believe it.
the congregations in the city are organizing a relief effort.
they're asking for toiletries, non-perishable food items, and bottled water.

everybody pictures the new system as a paradise, but i'm sure that there will be lousy jobs, just like today.. well, some will be garbage men, picking up the trash house to house.
not too pleasing for a new system job.. name other lousy jobs some will have to do even in the new system.
Dear God,
Make this my request: If it's true that you have a new system for mankind in which things will be better all around, I'll take any job available just to be part of your just new system.

maybe they'll take a cue from president bush and get involved?
